For Elsie Katherine

She worked all her life.
gave freely of her time.
Always fair and honest.
Never out of line.
Took time to listen.
Nothing too much bother
People loved her spirit
My loving Mother
Rarely was she lax
She paid all debts on time
Tax, National Insurance
Never had a fine
Trusted what they said
When she grew old and frail
Then such a bitter end
To a mighty tale
Three days of nothing
No food had passed her lips
No medicines either
No liquid, or drips
Only the Morphine,
the Midazolam too,
They said it was humane
I think not, do you?
Every year we mourn
For Christ hung on the cross
Yet for this Holy soul.
There was only loss
She, in faith, believed
The promises you hailed
She lived as she was told
And was truly failed
On this day I beg
You turn to God and say
Is this a worthy act
To subdue and slay?
Keepers of life’s child
So old, so frail, so scared
If, it was your Mother
Then, would you have cared?

The opinions expressed are
the writer’s own.
