Stop false information on large reptiles

The Issue

Recently I have seen a petition that has been going around on social media to 'Ban large pet snakes in the UK' due to an incident where a large python had escaped it's enclosure and travelled across the roof into a neighbours home. I understand that this is a scary situation for some people to come into contact with a large snake like this but this is not a reason to call for a ban on these large reptiles.

There is a large reptile community that enjoy and love to teach people about these reptiles and causing this ban would stop these people from doing the things they love and especially with large reptiles these creatures are here to be loved and cared for just like any other animal on this planet. In this case there is not enough information out there for people to invest the time in learning as there is a stigma that reptiles are "aggressive" and "evil" animals when this is not the truth and with a bit of teaching people can then understand that these animals can be just a docile as a cat or dog.

Here I have posted a link with answers from snake keepers themselves in regards to the myth "is there some truth large snakes size up there owners in order to eat them?"

https://www.quora.com/Is-there-some-truth-in-the-belief-that-pet-snakes-in-particular-big-ones-such-as-anacondas-and-reticulated-pythons-size-their-owners-up-in-order-to-eat-them

I will leave some points for you to look at as well if you do not decide to look at the link

  1. Well fed large snakes will not eat you, your children or your pets.
  2. Snakes are not "aggressive" animals they are defensive.
  3. Large snakes in this country for example Burmese Pythons in the wild its top predator is humans hunting it for its skin.
  4. people that own these snakes already have to go through a process before purchasing such a large animal providing proof of a well secure and fully acceptable enclosure for said animal.
  5. large snakes like the Burmese python, Reticulated pythons and other kinds like Boa Constrictors are actually very friendly animals and correctly handled and tamed will be puppy dog tame.
  6. having such large species of animals keeps the population alive and well and does well for the conservation of such beautiful animal.

with this petition I hope to open peoples eyes or at least getting people to have an open mind about said animals and I will leave links in this petition to youtube channels that provide a great base of learning for everyone.

The best thing for us is to learn about these animals and that is change that I would like to make happen and once this petition reaches its goal for anyone supporting this I will provide a GoFundMe link later to use any donations towards creating a learning program where it would include exact information of these animals and many other reptiles to be taught in a school setting or for private events for birthday parties as learning from a young age with parents present will allow everyone to have the information available and also have the facts given from people who have raised these animals and know there behaviours.
