Stop Excluding Nannies from Government Funded Childcare Support for families

Stop Excluding Nannies from Government Funded Childcare Support for families
The Issue
Families across the UK rely on nannies to provide high-quality, home-based childcare and education. Nannies play an essential role in children’s early years development, offering consistency, one-to-one care, and flexibility that nurseries and childminders often cannot provide.
Yet once again, the nanny industry has been excluded from government funding initiatives. While nurseries and childminders benefit from funded childcare hours, nannies are left out. This is creating a serious crisis:
Full-time nanny roles are at an all-time low
Nanny agencies are reporting a significant drop in enquiries
Payroll companies are seeing fewer families employing nannies
The message is clear: without urgent action, the nanny profession in the UK will not survive.
Families deserve the freedom to choose the childcare option that best suits their children — whether that’s a nursery, childminder, or a nanny. Excluding nannies from government funding schemes is unfair, unsustainable, and risks destroying a vital part of the childcare sector.
We call on the UK Government to:
Include nannies in all government childcare funding initiatives.
Recognise nannies as an equally valuable part of the early years workforce.
If direct funding cannot be extended to nannies, introduce a tax break for nanny employers. Families employing nannies currently pay tax twice — once on their income, and again on their nanny’s wages (including employer National Insurance). This is unfair and penalises parents who choose nannies for their children.
If we don’t speak up now, the nanny industry may disappear. Together, we can make sure that doesn’t happen.
Please sign and share this petition to give families choice — and to save the nanny profession.
