The Issue

Our community's health is more important than we recognize. It starts with our children. Their wellbeing affects our entire society. Our schools should be commited to health. Encouraging sugary treats like ice cream, candy, icies, and lollipops to be distributed in schools cannot be justified - it's harmful. These "treats" directly cause  childhood obesity and diabetes. It's time we take a stand.

The people of Polk County, North Carolina want to protect their children as much as any other community, this is a simple way to have a strong and positive impact on the lives of our youth we love so much.

Childhood obesity has tripled since the 1970s. Why? We don't have to accept this.

Our children deserve better.

Taxpayer dollars should  never be used to contribute to the early onset of health issues.

Polk County schools should stop pushing sugar. No candy fundraisers, no ice cream Fridays, no treat trucks, no Halloween handouts. Schools and staff should not be in the business of selling or promoting junk food.

If students want that stuff, that’s their choice — and their parents’ — outside of school. But inside the school system, it should not be offered, encouraged, or funded.

Put student's health first. Sign the petition to end school-sponsored sugar in Polk County.
