Stop excessive card payment fees for small businesses and their customers

The issue

Small businesses are subsidising big business to the tune of $1.7 billion per year in excessive card fees charged by banks, platforms and card companies.

In many cases, small businesses pay more than three times as much as big supermarkets in card fees, and have no choice but to pass on these fees to their customers with higher prices or surcharges.

People should not have to pay excessive fees to access their own money.

Sign this petition and join the Independent Payments Forum in calling for the Reserve Bank and Federal Government to immediately:

  1. Ensure debit card transaction fees are as close to zero
  2. Curb sweetheart deals for big retailers that hurt small business
  3. Ensure Australians have free and ongoing access to cash
  4. Ban blended pricing of credit and debit cards
  5. Cap all debit card fees at a very low rate to cut surcharging
  6. Mandate least cost routing and returning the benefits to users
