Stop Euthanizing Shelter Animals Without Fair Adoption Opportunities

Stop Euthanizing Shelter Animals Without Fair Adoption Opportunities
The Issue
As a passionate animal lover, I am deeply concerned with Harris County Shelter's recent decision to euthanize dogs who have spent more than two weeks in the shelter, without even putting them on a euthanasia list deadline. This abrupt policy change robs these animals of potential rescue or adoption opportunities and contradicts the core purpose of an animal shelter – ensuring the safety and welfare of its animals.
Every animal deserves a shot at finding a loving home. By eliminating fair warning, these innocent creatures lose out on critical networking through rescues and media outlets. Through no fault of their own, animals are being deprived of the attention and care they need before finding a permanent residence. It is heartbreaking to think that they are being euthanized without a chance at life.
Furthermore, it is unsettling to question where all of the donations are going. These animals often come into the shelter injured or not sterilized. However, there seems to be a lack of adequate veterinary care for them during their stay at the facility. Indeed, their wellbeing appears to be overlooked, followed by an untimely termination of their lives.
Adopters and rescuers need time to discover, interact, and secure resources for these animals. So let's urge Harris County Shelter to give animals ample time, ensure proactively expanded outreach efforts, and prioritize transparency about its practices and use of funding. Together, we can press for a policy that respects and values all lives. Please join me in this cause – sign this petition to give every animal the chance they deserve.
