The Issue

Everyone agrees that their tax dollars should not be used to end the life of innocent animals in kill shelters. This issue hits close to the heart, as it involves our furry companions who look to us for protection. These 'kill shelters' euthanize healthy animals, a practice that many find inhumane and unjust.

American shelters euthanize nearly 670,000 dogs each year according to the ASPCA. These are healthy and adoptable animals that could have found loving homes if given the opportunity. To prevent this unnecessary loss of life, this petition proposes an urgent mandate for all animal-control kill shelters nationwide to hold adoption events weekly with minimum stays of one-month. Through these events, more animals stand a chance to find loving permanent homes instead of meeting a premature end.

In addition, this petition demands an immediate stop to euthanizing healthy animals. Tax dollars should be redirected towards improving living conditions in shelters and promoting weekly adoption events with mandatory spay/neuter programs.

To address the catalyst of the problem, require breeders and puppy mills be registered, pay taxes on litters (dogs sold) to fund spay/neuter requirements.

Lastly, we will champion and fight for adequate animal rights laws across all 50 states in the US.  Starting with Texas, the highest killer of shelter animals, followed by California, Florida, North Carolina, Mississippi and Alabama.

If we champion life and dignity for animals, we create a ripple effect of compassion in our communities. Together, we can create a world where every furry friend is given a chance at life, love, and happiness. Please sign this petition and demand justice for our animal companions waiting in kill shelters nationwide.
