Stop Elected Officials from Finalizing a 1B Data Center Contract without Public Consent

The Issue

I, as a concerned resident of Bristol Indiana in Elkhart County, am taken aback with the moves of our elected officials to make a decision that impacts us all, without our full knowledge or consent. Behind closed doors, contracts are being signed for a 1 billion dollar data center that raises concerns regarding privacy, resources, and the true cost to our community.

This data center could store unknown volumes of private information under unsupervised access. We are left questioning what data would be collected and who is allowed to access it. Could law enforcement use it for warrantless searches? What if a foreign agent gets involved? These unsettling questions remain unanswered, while our elected representatives keep hiding behind undisclosed Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs).

Moreover, the data center brings an untold cost to our community. The fear of property values plummeting, potential seizing of homes, and increased use of local land and resources such as water, gas, and electric all feed into an unsettling anticipation. The noise disturbance from the expected operations of such a massive center is another concern that threatens our peace and tranquility in such a rural community.

However, the nefarious activities don’t end here. Our representatives have been misleading about other projects and have even lied about the noise ordinance, revealing an apparent disregard - to life and property. Along with their fiduciary responsibility to us, the people they represent.

The details of this proposal are discussed behind closed doors, yet when time comes to vote, it is suddenly presented to us as if we are a part of the process. This is not real transparency. This is not real representation.

We urge everyone to join us in petitioning for a moratorium until proper public consultation takes place - and full, honest disclosure of all potential impacts are presented. This is about our rights to privacy and to control the exploitation of our resources, as well as our right to be heard in the decisions that affect us all. Please sign this petition and demand justice and transparency from our elected officials.
