Stop Dumping of Toxic Fire Debris into Local Unfit Landfills

The Issue

As a devoted mother and local resident of Granada Hills, safety is paramount to me. Not just my own safety, but the wellbeing of my family, and my neighbors who make up this beautiful community. The proposed plan to dump millions of tons of toxic wildfire debris from the Eaton and Palisades fires into our local landfills is a direct threat to this safety.

Regrettably, these landfills, including Sunshine Canyon Landfill, were never designed to handle hazardous waste. The debris, which contains harmful chemicals such as brain-damaging heavy metals and cancer-causing toxins, can have significant impacts on the health of the people living in the area. Our community, where hundreds of families have made their homes and built their lives, could be put at risk.

The decision to use our local landfill out of "convenience" disrespects our right to clean air, soil, and water. Our public officials may be making the choice of disposal site, but they aren't the ones living with the consequences. It's us residents and especially our children who will bear the brunt of such a dangerous decision.

We call for our public officials to choose a less densely populated hazardous waste faculty, one that is equipped to properly handle and process this debris. Let's protect our community from avoidable health risks. Act now and sign this petition, because our community deserves better! We owe it to the citizens of Granada Hills, the hardworking parents who dream of a safe environment for their kids, and the generations ahead of us who will inherit this precious land.
