STOP DOUBLE QUARRY – Keep Beautiful Bates City from Becoming a QUARRY ZONE

The Issue

We need your help!

We are asking for your support in signing the petition below to express strong opposition to the proposed double limestone quarry near our homes in beautiful Bates City, Missouri.  This operation would place a second quarry directly beside an existing one—something that has never been done —and would cause serious and lasting harm to our community.

Why We Oppose the Permit:

  • This project would create a double quarry complex directly next to homes occupied by senior citizens, veterans, children, and people with serious health conditions such as asthma, heart disease, and PTSD.- It would dramatically increase dust exposure, blasting noise, and vibrations, placing vulnerable people at greater risk.
  • The site is located on a dangerous, curvy two-lane rural highway (it's only a MO Supplemental Lettered Highway) that has already seen multiple fatal accidents, including those involving trucks. It is not designed for commercial quarry traffic.  We would have a massive increase in gravel truck traffic, including INTERSTATE GRAVEL TRUCKING with only a six-inch shoulder to escape when someone comes into your lane.  WE want SAFETY FIRST.
  • The project would lead to significant land devaluation, disrupting both residential quality of life and long-term investment in our area.
  • Wildlife, pets, farm animals, and especially birds—some of the most sensitive species to industrial stress—would be threatened by the blasting, air quality changes, and habitat loss.
  • Our local water aquifer could be depleted or contaminated, as was reportedly the case in western Kansas, where the same company (Mid-States Materials) quietly ceased dredging operations due to water issues—with no public transparency.

This petition reflects our community's clear and unified wish: that the Missouri Department of Natural Resources DENY THIS PERMIT and prevent the transformation of our peaceful rural neighborhoods into an industrial quarry zone.

FORWARD THIS TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS!
