Stop Dollar General on Hwy 22 West - Start Zoning Restrictions in Tangipahoa Parish
The Issue
***NO DONATIONS***
The residents of Tangipahoa Parish are negatively impacted by saturation of dollar-type stores (specifically Dollar General-DG) throughout residential areas. These types of stores are sometimes as close as 2-3 miles apart. They increase traffic, affect drainage, diminish small businesses, attract litter, and more importantly, attract dangerous crime in their vicinity. The goal of DG? To “reshape small towns”, see:
https://www.cfra.org/blog/desk-executive-director-dollar-general-seeks-reshape-small-towns
If this accelerated and increased development does not stop soon, our South Louisiana landscape will be littered with a DG every 2-3 miles along some of our most beautiful roadways. The quality of our residential areas will suffer; traffic, crime, & litter will increase.
NOW is the time to act! Immediately STOP the DG on Hwy 22. W & Dutch Lane. There is no need for this location as a DG was just approved 2 miles away on Pumpkin Ctr & Tuttle Rd. If this is allowed to proceed, there will be SEVEN (7) dollar-type stores (5 Dollar Generals) within a 3-4 mile radius.
