As a frequent user of Discord, I have built and cherished multiple friend groups through this fantastic platform. These communities have provided a safe space for all of us to connect, share our thoughts, and support each other through both good and challenging times. However, Discord's move to possibly implement age groups and age verification threatens to dismantle these groups, shattering a community built on trust and shared experiences.

Discord has been a haven for people from different backgrounds and age groups to come together and share common interests without barriers. The freedom to join any community has been a cornerstone of the platform's success and appeal. However, the introduction of separated age group communities and mandatory age verification stands to fundamentally alter this aspect. This change might inadvertently isolate users and lead to the fragmentation of existing groups, forcing people apart based solely on their age.

There are better ways to ensure safety and security without segregating users by age. Discord could instead enhance its moderation tools and policies to better detect and manage inappropriate behavior, ensuring that the platform remains safe for everyone without alienating its user base.

Such drastic measures risk losing the unique community spirit that Discord has nurtured over the years. Many users, like myself, may find themselves isolated from their friends, causing emotional distress and a loss of a valuable support network. Discord should focus on uniting people, not dividing them.

I urge Discord to reconsider the implementation of age groups and mandatory verification. Let's preserve the integrity and inclusiveness of our cherished communities by exploring alternatives that ensure safety without fragmenting the user experience.
