DEP Flood Preparedness Town Hall

Hi everyone,

First, a huge thank you for your continued support—together, we are making real progress with the DEP and our elected officials! Thanks to our collective voice, the main sewer line in our neighborhoods has been cleaned, new rain gardens have been installed, additional trees are being planted, and the DEP recently built a bioretention system by LaGuardia Landing Lights park to help manage stormwater.

These are great wins, but our work is far from done. To prevent the devastating flooding we experienced during Hurricane Ida and Tropical Storm Ophelia, we need much larger green infrastructure enhancements and major stormwater upgrades.

With a new city administration in place, now is the time to push even harder. I have updated our petition to target our new decision-makers: Mayor Zohran Mamdani and DEP Commissioner Lisa F. Garcia. Please help us build momentum by sharing the petition with your neighbors.

We also need a strong turnout at the upcoming DEP Town Hall to show our leaders how critical this issue is for East Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, and Astoria.

Persistent flooding is unacceptable. As storms get worse, we need real infrastructure solutions today. Let’s get the word out and work together for the safe, resilient neighborhood we deserve.
