DEP is cleaning sewers across East Elmhurst and Astoria
Hey everyone. I'd like to thank you all for your support. We had meeting with the DEP, city, state and federal elected officials last month.
They've discussed a long term plan to add green infrastructure to the LaGuardia Landing lights park to reduce the flooding in that part of East Elmhurst, and an investigation of the sewers for the next roughly year and a half to determine next steps for our sewer system
In terms of short term efforts, over the past few months the DEP has been cleaning sewers across East Elmhurst and Astoria.
As a result of this cleanup effort, smaller storms are no longer flooding some blocks across East Elmhurst.
However, the flooding issues are far from over as climate change continues to bring more severe storms to NYC.
Please continue to support us and spread the word about this petition so that we can progress with the rest of our plans to install new green infrastructure and rain gardens all across these neighborhoods and to ensure that sewer upgrades are made to increase capacity to prevent sewer surcharge flooding in our homes.
