Recent reports indicate that deforestation in the Amazon has reached critical levels. The unprecedented fires and clear-cutting activities result in catastrophic losses of flora and fauna, some of which we do not even fully understand yet. Research by the Brazilian Space Research Institute confirmed that deforestation in the Amazon increased by more than 64% in 2019 from the previous year.

An actionable solution to this crisis is enforcing stricter regulations and international cooperation. The Brazilian government needs pressure locally and globally to increase enforcement of environmental laws, adopt sustainable land management practices, and halt illegal activities. Additionally, developed countries and international companies must take responsibility and support initiatives that protect the Amazon.
