The Issue

🚫 Stop Data Centers in Hobart, Indiana – Protect Our Community

Petition Statement:
We, the residents of Hobart, IN strongly oppose the development of data centers in our community. While we support growth and innovation, large-scale data centers bring with them significant risks and burdens that our city should not be forced to carry.

Why This Matters:

  • Water Usage: Hyperscale data centers consume millions of gallons of water each day for cooling — straining local resources and threatening our future supply.
  • Energy Strain: These facilities demand enormous amounts of electricity, which can lead to higher utility costs for residents and put stress on our local grid.
  • Noise & Pollution: Constant generator testing, heavy equipment, and 24/7 operation bring noise and air pollution that disrupt quality of life.
  • Loss of Land & Character: Valuable land could instead be used for housing, parks, or small businesses that serve residents — not industrial-scale server farms.
  • Limited Local Benefit: Data centers create very few permanent jobs, yet they reap huge tax breaks and incentives that do not benefit the average resident.

Our Call to Action:
We urge the City Council, Mayor, & Planning Commission to reject proposals for data centers in Hobart, Indiana. Instead, we ask our leaders to prioritize community-centered development that protects our resources, enhances livability, and truly benefits residents.

Together, we can protect Hobart, Indiana from becoming a hub for industrial data centers. Add your voice today.
