Stop Cyclists on Our County Roads!!

The Issue

Keeping cyclist off our County Roads is imperative for the safety of our residents and cyclists.

Not to mention the millions of taxpayer dollars that have already been spent of Texan's money to create bike lanes, etc., for safe cycling all around the state. Now they come out to our quiet rural areas and demand we accommodate this nonsense.

When our crops all around the area are growing and tall, you cannot even see the cyclist coming around a blind curve at 55 mph or more on roads that are only wide enough for one vehicle. It happens constantly. Now add in all the folks around here pulling trailers with livestock that very suddenly have to slam on their brakes and swerve.  It's ridiculous for anyone to think it's safe to be cycling out here.

They refuse to properly adhere to stop and yield signs and regularly ride in the middle of our narrow roads in groups.  There have been multiple instances where my neighbors have attested to almost hitting a group that was in the middle of the road as they crested a blind hill top where they did not see the group after coming over the hill.

It has also come to using our narrow rural farm and county roads to host cycling events that effectively shut down or impede the roads for hours so that they can come by the hundreds or thousands and cycle around the countryside without regard to the surrounding community, the heavy machinery and farm equipment that is frequently on our roads, etc.

If we must allow them to take over our roads, I demand that they follow all of the same rules of the roads that motorists/motorcyclist must.  They must have their bicycle inspected and/or registered each year, carry full coverage insurance, obtain and maintain a cyclist license after passing a required safety course, wear DOT approved helmets and reflective gear.

Think of all the money going back into our great state!

I refuse to share the road with anyone who does not respect our residents and communities or roads and that can do so for free.

Take it back to the city where the taxpayers have already made the changes and accommodations for your bikes to be on the streets!!

Let's change this now! With enough signatures, I plan on making our case with the county, city council, the state or anywhere else I can.
