Stop cuts to disabled people’s benefits
The Issue
Petition: Stop Cuts to Disabled People’s Benefits
To: The Prime Minister and the Labour Government
We, the undersigned, call on the Labour government to immediately halt all cuts to benefits for disabled people and instead prioritise policies that provide dignity, financial security, and real opportunities for disabled individuals.
Disabled people face disproportionate hardship due to systemic barriers in employment, housing, healthcare, and social services. Government benefits are a lifeline, ensuring access to basic needs, independence, and participation in society. Any reduction in these essential supports pushes disabled people further into poverty, isolation, and crisis.
Labour was elected on a promise of fairness, equality, and social justice. Cutting benefits for some of the most vulnerable members of society is a betrayal of those values. We demand that the government:
1. Cease all planned cuts to disability-related benefits, including Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), and Universal Credit (UC) disability premiums.
2. Ensure benefit rates rise in line with inflation so that disabled people are not left struggling to afford essentials.
3. Invest in a fair and accessible assessment process that truly reflects disabled people’s needs and stops unjust denials of support.
4. Recognise the extra costs of disability and implement policies that enhance—not diminish—financial security for disabled individuals.
We urge the Labour government to uphold its commitment to social justice and protect disabled people from further economic harm. Stop the cuts now!
