Stop copper mining in the Intag area of Cotacachi, in Ecuador

The Issue

Support the campaign to stop the copper mining in the Intag area of Cotacachi Canton, Ecuador. This beautiful land sits within the Tropical Andes Biodiversity Hotspot, the most biodiverse of the world's 36 Hotspots.

Since 1995, four mining companies have tried to develop a large-scale copper mine.  Today, what is stopping mining development is a court decision in March of 2023 that could be upended by the Constitutional Tribunal at any time.

Without international support, standing up to transnational mining is impossible.   We hope to count on your support.

I visited the area recently to volunteer and was struck by the stunning landscapes and how the local communities work with the land, treating the land, all living beings and water sources with respect. Copper mining would destroy this way of life as well as destroy the unique Biodiversity here. The communities feel international interest and support is vital to help stop the mining
