IATA are currently promoting their theory on Facebook in order to promote air travel at this time. Despite many people advising Facebook that IATA’s claims are fake news, this promotion has not been removed.
IATA in effect, are stating that the information from the European Centre for Disease Control and The US Centres For Disease Control and Prevention is incorrect:

European Centre for Disease Control:
At the beginning of the influenza A(H1N1) pandemic in 2009, air travel was the cause of the introduction (link is external) of this new virus into countries not primarily affected, and aeroplanes are likely to be a major vector when the next pandemic occurs(link is external).

The US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention:
"The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now says thousands of passengers on board commercial flights may have been exposed to coronavirus since the start of 2020.
In a statement emailed to CNN, the CDC says it was made aware of 1,600 flights between January and August where a person on board may have had Covid-19, potentially exposing 10,900 people "within a 6-foot range for droplet transmission" to coronavirus.
"CDC identified and notified relevant health departments about these 10,900 on-board close contacts," said the statement.
CDC said it has received reports of Covid-19 cases among people who were identified as contacts on flights, but noted this data is limited by incomplete contact information, delayed notification of an infectious traveler and incomplete information about testing and outcomes for contacts, among other factors.
The new data, first reported by The Washington Post, comes as air carriers are ratcheting up their insistence that air travel is safe. Air travel in the United States remains at roughly 30% of last year's levels." (source)

I am CURIOUS …
• Does anyone at IATA bother doing any type of “due diligence background check” when preparing marketing materials on behalf of the Airline Industry?
• Have Airline Industry associated officials “lost their ethical and moral compass” when it comes to advertising?
• Has it become accepted practice by Airline Industry representatives and associates to ‘misinform’ the general public via the ‘absence’ of critical data from marketing materials?
 
Consider the recently issued IATA promotional slides (attached) about ‘clean cabin air’:
 
Slide 1 – HEPA filters remove 99.9% of viruses:
• 99.9% efficiency strictly represents test results potentially achieved under very controlled laboratory conditions that bear no relationship to filter efficacy under actual operating scenarios, as pointed out by numerous independent academic studies, ASHAREA and the FAA’s Civil Aerospace Medical Institute.
• HEPA filters are ‘designed’ to capture particulate matter and not 99.9% of viruses (or gases), since those are much smaller than HEPA filter pore openings.
• Where are the airline test results based on actual long-term operational conditions?
 
Slide 2 – Cabin air is as clean as in hospitals:  
• How is cabin air considered ‘hospital’ grade when it consists of unfiltered ‘bleed air’ (from jet engines) and unmonitored re-circulated air (via questionable HEPA filter efficiency)?
 
Slide 3 – Cabin air renewal:
• When has “Cabin air is fully renewed” become a valid statement considering about 50% of ‘existing’ cabin air (with potential contaminants) is consistently re-circulated?
• Is the introduction of “fully renewed” unfiltered bleed air also being promoted as ‘beneficial’?
• Why mention air is being replaced “every 2-3 minutes” when it likely consists of contaminated air being either re-circulated or introduced via the jet engines?
 
Slide 4 – Cabin air is a 50/50 mix:
• How does outside air become designated “fresh air” after passing through the jet engine into the passenger cabin unfiltered?
• What proof exists that re-circulated HEPA filter air on airplanes is devoid of contaminants?

As mentioned above, the air onboard aircraft is neither ‘fresh’ nor ‘sterile’. It is drawn through the aircraft engines (a process called bleed-air) and brings with it toxic chemical fumes from engine oil, hydraulic fluids and also during taxiing the exhaust fumes from other aircraft - all of it UNFILTERED.
 You can see in this video how the air conditioning ducts become contaminated with harmful deposits - these are NOT removed or destroyed by HEPA filtration which is used to recycle the air onboard.

It’s very unfortunate that the aviation industry made the decision to deny that the contaminated air in aircraft is harmful to human health and that there are no long-term health effects - rather than do the right thing - address the problem and work to find innovative solutions to put a stop to it.
It’s also very unfortunate they now claim the air onboard aircraft is ‘FRESH AND CLEAN’ and that HEPA filters and the ventilation systems onboard stop the spread of viruses.
