The Aviation Industry do not deny that Fume Events occur nor do they deny the short-term effects crew (and on some occasions, passengers) experience.

‘It is acknowledged that people who experience a fume event (of any type) may report symptoms such as irritation to the eyes, nose and throat. These symptoms usually resolve, however, once the fumes or smell have disappeared.
A number of studies have been carried out in this area, including Government-commissioned research. Long term ill health due to any toxic effect from cabin air is understood to be unlikely, although such a link cannot be ruled out.’

The CAA conveniently forget to mention that fumes in aircraft cockpits and cabins from aircraft oil or hydraulic fluid can also affect cognitive function of pilots and cabin crew as well as breathing difficulties, nausea and dizziness.
In what other Industry in the U.K. are employees permitted be be exposed to harmful contaminants in their place of work?
Why are aircraft crew and passengers permitted to be knowingly exposed to harmful toxic chemicals onboard aircraft?

Unfortunately, proving long term health effects is a very long and expensive process. The majority of those injured can not afford to bring a case to court because of the costs involved as many are unable to work any longer. There are tens of thousands affected worldwide.
Fortunately, here in the U.K. the Unite Union has taken up the rein and are funding over 160 cases against U.K. airlines.
Below is a list of fume events reported to us by BA Crew (and other concerned employees at the airline) who have become increasingly worried for their health and for that of their colleagues, many of whom had to be ‘checked out’ by health professionals following exposure. Some of the crew involved in these exposures remain off work with continuing health issues:
