The Issue

Hello neighbors, my name is Alexis Moreno. I live in Jacinto City; I purchase my groceries at Sellers Bros, watch movies at Cinemark, went to school at Port of Houston Elementary as well as buy snow cones near city hall.  Jacinto City, Texas, is a place many of us proudly call home where you have probably done the same things I have. It's a community filled with rich history, friendly neighbors, and a deep sense of belonging. However, today we face a threat that could alter everything we love about our small yet mighty city: the proposed construction of a massive AI data center.

Imagine our peaceful community, unfortunately transformed into the next Grandbury or Dowagiac, where massive data centers lead to overwhelming traffic, constant noise pollution, and environmental degradation. These data hubs consume vast amounts of energy and water, and their presence often causes property values to plummet. The people of Vineland and Southaven can testify to the adverse effects of living near such facilities, with increased pollution and diminishing local resources.

In Memphis, locals have struggled with the light pollution and the enormous footprint that data centers carve into the landscape. In Jacinto City, we can avoid these potential issues altogether by taking a stand NOW. Let us preserve the residential charm, clean air, and water sources that define our city.

The establishment of an AI data center threatens not only our environment but also our quality of life. Our city will have to battle for resources against a corporate giant. Local infrastructure could become overstretched, resulting in constant roadwork and maintenance that disrupts daily life. We cannot let this happen to our Jacinto City.

We are not against progress or advancement, but it should not come at the cost of our community's well-being and sustainability. We need solutions that acknowledge the needs of innovation while preserving the integrity and health of our neighborhoods.

Therefore, we urge the local and state government to explore alternative locations for this data center, ensuring it does not compromise our residential areas and natural resources. We also call upon businesses aiming to build such facilities where there is ANY residential living within a 100-mile radius to adopt drastically friendlier environmentally technologies, reducing their carbon footprint and resource consumption.

Simply consider why cant these businesses build data centers in their own backyards?

By signing this petition, you are lending your voice to protect Jacinto City from becoming another cautionary tale. Let's work together to ensure our beloved city remains a vibrant and healthy community for future generations. Sign now to keep the spirit soul of Jacinto City intact
