The Issue

I live in a peaceful residential neighborhood, where families reside, and children play openly and freely. As a mother, I am deeply concerned about the proposal to build a jail less than a mile from our home. My children attend a school that is a mere three miles away, and there’s another one even closer, less than a mile from the proposed site. This plan puts not only my family but also other families at unnecessary risk and threatens the peace and security that we cherish in our community.

Building a detention facility in such close proximity to homes and schools is not just distressing but also raises significant safety concerns. Studies indicate that having penal institutions in residential areas can lead to an increase in fear of crime, causing stress and anxiety among the residents. Moreover, it's an inappropriate allocation of resources that could otherwise be used to fortify our community infrastructure, improve educational facilities, or even enhance local recreational areas.

We need to address our concerns collectively and efficiently before it's too late. Instead of constructing new jails in our towns, the focus should be on rehabilitating existing facilities, investing in community-based corrections, and enhancing preventive measures that address the root causes of incarceration.

Residents deserve to have their voices heard, and we need to act now. Local officials must be made aware of the myriad problems that this construction could bring to our peaceful community and take immediate action to reassess these plans.

Please join us and sign this petition to urge local authorities to reconsider and halt the construction of a jail in our neighborhood. Protect our homes, schools, and the serenity of our environment by supporting a safer, more suitable location for such a facility.
