Stop Chase Bank's Unjust Seizure of Funds and Abuse of Power

Stop Chase Bank's Unjust Seizure of Funds and Abuse of Power

The Issue

As a mother and power of attorney for my incarcerated daughter, I am standing up against the unjust practices of Chase Bank. My daughter and I receive monthly checks from our tribe, which I have been depositing into my friend's account at Chase Bank due to not having an account myself. This was a practice we had been conducting without issue until December 2023 when things took a turn for the worse.

After depositing a check for $3600, significantly higher than our usual deposits but entirely legitimate, Chase Bank froze my friend's account. They seized both the deposited funds and the existing balance in her account without any justification or explanation. We have taken numerous steps to resolve this issue but without any progress. The account has been closed for over 2 months and Chase still has our money, including the account holders personal money not involved with the check. This action by Chase has left us without access to our rightful money.

This is not just about us; it is about all those who are being preyed upon by big banks like Chase who deem transactions "suspicious" based on their value rather than on any actual evidence of wrongdoing. You can go to the CFPA website and see thousands of the complaints filed for very similar stories  The Reddit website lists multiple posts of similar stories where individuals are looking for answers as to how they can regain their funds from Chase Bank. Consumer Reviews website gives Chase Bank a 1 star rating for so many similar reviews they've received. A common theme is that Chase first lets the monies clear their originating Bank then claims suspicious activity and freezes the account. Most banks, when they feel a check is suspicious, simply won't cash the check and return it or a legal copy. That in and of itself shows suspicious activity by Chase Bank. Another common theme is who they target. They target mostly minorities or lower income people. That screams discrimination! It is particularly concerning that this abuse is happening in California, where 1 in 4 households are underbanked or unbanked according to Federal Reserve data.

We demand that Chase Bank immediately release our funds and stop their arbitrary freezing of accounts based on unfounded suspicions. We also call upon regulatory bodies to investigate these practices and protect consumers from such abuses.
