Last week, the York County Library (YCL) Board passed a discriminatory and unconstitutional collection development policy. While devastating, this outcome was not a surprise. The York County Council deliberately reduced, reshaped, and politically stacked the Library Board with York County GOP leadership and spouses of leadership to ensure this result.
This moment has been building for two and a half years, ever since Councilmember Tom Audette manufactured a moral panic around library materials. Although extremists have held a majority on the board for some time, it took them this long to force this policy through - because of you.

Advocacy is a marathon, not a sprint. It’s okay to feel angry, sad, or disappointed. Share what happened with your friends, family, and neighbors - especially those who may not be paying attention yet.
Then get ready.
The only way to fix this is at the ballot box. We must vote out the York County Council members who engineered this takeover, and to do that, we need strong candidates willing to run against them.
