Dear Neighbors,
The York County Library Board is meeting Thursday, August 14th at 12:00 PM at the Rock Hill Library - and they’ll be voting on harmful, discriminatory policy changes that would relocate children’s and young adult books with LGBTQ+ content to the adult section. This is censorship, plain and simple, and it sends the wrong message to our youth and our community.
We need to pack the room (and the sidewalks!) with love, pride, and support for EVERY reader.
✅ What to Do:
Arrive early - the meeting room holds just 60 people including the board and staff, so get there in advance if you want to speak during public comments or grab a seat.
Wear your LGBTQ+ supportive shirts and bring signs that show we value diversity, inclusion, and the freedom to read.
Bring friends and family - let’s show that our community’s love outweighs hate.
Can’t get in the room? Join others outside in a peaceful, visible protest. Your presence matters.
📧 If you can’t be there in person:
Make your voice heard by emailing the board and county council urging them to VOTE NO on these discriminatory changes:

Copy to York County Council: council@yorkcountygov.com
Let’s send a clear message: Our libraries should be for everyone, without censorship or discrimination.
Let’s stand together for love, inclusion, and the freedom to read. 🌈📚
