I've yet to receive written confirmation of Bruny Island Airport status and lease agreement. I've asked for details on any landing or parking restrictions. I was told there were details on Kingborough Council's Facebook page confirming the airport is staying open but I've yet to locate it. In a special meeting held on 13/6/18 Kingborough Council allocated $4,643,000 for capital works on roads, bridges and jetties in 2018/19 financial year. I've made a request that council extend that item to include airports next year. Considering that the land was donated to the council as a gift to ratepayers it's probably reasonable that it's looked after by the council. Page 7 of Council meeting held 9th July indicates that a petition of 138 signatures was received but no vote has yet been made. https://www.kingborough.tas.gov.au/council/council-meetings/meetings-archive/ Bruny Island Airstrip A petition containing 138 signatures has been received by Council petitioning Council to “Keep the Bruny Island Airstrip open for the safety of the Bruny Island community, tourism in Southern Tasmania and the aviation industry.” MOVED SECONDED That the petition be received. No vote for or against was indicated on the meeting notes. The councilors are: Cr Atkinson Cr Percey Cr Dr Bury Cr Wass Cr Chatterton Cr Winter Cr Fox Cr Wriedt Cr Grace Until the council confirms in writing this petition remains active. So please make comments, research and inform others to sign up.
