I received a call from Sarah Wilcox, media spokesperson at Kingborough Council to say that the council are negotiating some sort of agreement so the airstrip may well be staying in public hands but leased out. Once I get further details I’ll let you know. Sarah said that the initial EOI some time ago resulted in a zero response hence their actions to dispose of the strip. The public comments they received made the council aware of the safety issues of passing aviation traffic that the council was not previously aware of. Hopefully this airport will be saved.
