The Issue

The proposed installation of a massive AI data centre in Kanchipuram poses an immediate and severe threat to our local environment, public utilities, and daily safety. While presented as technological progress, the reality of hosting an industrial facility of this scale is a dangerous strain on our most vital resources: water and electricity.

The Reality of AI Data Centres: Resource Depletion

Data centres are not office buildings; they are heavy industrial plants that operate 24/7, consuming resources at an unsustainable rate.

Critical Water Depletion: AI data centres require millions of litres of water every single day to cool their massive computer servers. Siphoning this immense volume from our local tech infrastructure risks depleting the regional water table, threatening agriculture, and jeopardizing the daily drinking water supply of residents.

Severe Electrical Grid Strain: These facilities consume vast amounts of electricity—often equivalent to the power needed for tens of thousands of homes. Forcing this massive load onto our existing power grid increases the risk of frequent blackouts, voltage fluctuations, and long-term energy insecurity for local communities.

Environmental & Safety Hazards: The immense energy consumption directly translates to increased localized heat emissions and a massive carbon footprint. Furthermore, the reliance on large-scale backup diesel generators for power outages introduces a continuous risk of air and noise pollution.

Our Demand: Prioritize Resource Safety

We urge the local authorities to reconsider this decision and relocate the proposed data centre to an area with dedicated industrial infrastructure that can handle such extreme energy and water demands without compromising public safety.

Sign this petition to demand that authorities prioritize environmental safety, protect our power grid, and safeguard our water supply.
