Le problème

In recent days, I have been deeply concerned about the Canadian government's decision to introduce Bill C-22, which seeks to enforce online espionage in our democratic nation. This new legislation threatens the very foundation of our society: our constitutional right to privacy. It is personal for me, as it should be for every citizen who values their freedom and autonomy in the digital age.

Bill C-22 is presented as a tool to combat cyber threats, but the broader consequences could be disastrous. By allowing greater surveillance on individual online activities, the bill impinges on civil liberties in unprecedented ways. It opens the door to unwarranted data collection, tracking, and potentially dangerous misuse of personal information. Data breaches are not uncommon, and the more data that is collected and stored, the higher the risk of it falling into the wrong hands.

According to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, Canadians are increasingly concerned about their online privacy. A 2022 survey indicated that 92% of Canadians expressed concern about protecting their privacy, and 79% were worried about government surveillance. These statistics highlight a clear public sentiment against such intrusive measures.

Furthermore, the invasion of privacy is not just a personal issue; it affects businesses and innovation. Startups and tech companies thrive when they can assure their consumers of privacy. Bill C-22 could result in crippling blowbacks, deterring international businesses from investing in a country that cannot guarantee user data safety.

We must stand together to oppose Bill C-22. It's not just an attack on privacy but an attack on our democratic values and freedoms. Lawmakers must seek less invasive approaches to cybersecurity that respect individual rights.

Join me in protecting our privacy and rights. Let us send a strong message to the Canadian government that we value our constitution and will not stand for unnecessary surveillance measures. Please sign this petition to halt Bill C-22 and protect the future of privacy in Canada.
