Dear supporters,

On Tuesday, 19 November at 6:00 PM, we gather at Berwick Springs Lake for a crucial moment in our campaign for proper community consultation and democratic processes that safeguard our society.

In recent developments, we highlight that Brad Battin MP has raised our concerns directly in Parliament, questioning the Minister for Planning about the process behind this sudden renaming. We also note that despite numerous attempts to engage with our local member Gary Maas MP, our community still awaits a response to our questions. Our petition continues to grow, with signatures from people of all backgrounds, faiths, and cultures standing together for this cause.

This is not just about a name change, and it is not about who Berwick Springs Lake has been renamed after. This fundamentally matters because it is about:

  • The essential right of all communities to be consulted on decisions that affect them;
  • Listening to the diverse voices that make up our vibrant multicultural community, not just selected groups (which creates divisiveness and disharmony in the community);
  • The government’s obligation to follow Victorian naming rules and procedures that protect everyone's interests;
  • Protecting the history of Berwick Springs and the identity of the local community;
  • A precedent that could affect 6,000+ places across Victoria;
  • Protecting democratic processes and the rule of law that safeguard our society.

In tomorrow's Community Meeting, speakers include Brad Battin MP (Member for Berwick), Ann-Marie Hermans MP (Member for South Eastern Metropolitan Region), a member of the Greaves family, and Michael Ball (community advocate).

Community presence at this meeting is crucial. Every person who attends helps demonstrate our community's support for proper consultation, democratic principles, and everything else we stand for.

Event Details: Tuesday, 19 November 2024, 6:00 PM, Corner of Berwick Springs Promenade & The Esplanade (next to playground).

Bring your neighbours and friends.

A heartfelt thank you!

See you tomomorrow.
