Apologies for this very delayed update!
Lot’s has transpired since my last update, so I will summarize.
All the dates below are very important for us to have folks there, so if you are around, please show up at City Hall, 25 West Street, Leominster, MA, on any one of these dates, or better yet, all if possible. Time to show up is 5:45 for pre-meeting rally outside City Hall, or 6:10pm for just meeting attendance.
On 3/24/2025, we submitted Petition 41-25 to the City Council. Its premise is to prohibit horse and dog racing and any associated betting and wagering on the speed and skills of the participating animals, anywhere in the City of Leominster.
The initial reading of Petition 41-25 couldn’t have gone better! Even though it was freezing rain, we still had 28 people participate in the rally prior to the City Council meeting and had 70-80 people attend the meeting and 18 people get up and speak to the City Council in favor of Petition 41-25!
Petition 41-25 has now been forwarded to the Planning Board and will appear on their agenda on 5/19/25. Then it will hopefully be back on the City Council meeting agenda for a vote on 6/2/25.
Also, The Fairgrounds folks finally submitted their Host Community Agreement to the City Council. While it’s not technically a vote item for the City Council, they do have it on tonight’s, 4/14/25 agenda for those who would like to speak to the City Council about it. And they will have a zoning petition initial reading on the 4/28/25 City Council agenda.
If you can make it, please come and join us!
If you need more details about what will be acceptable talking points at each meeting please reach out to me at lisanugent@aol.com.
