We are happy to report that the Alameda County Fair has not been awarding fish as prizes at this year's event.
However, in our last communication with a fair representative this February, they indicated that they were not willing to establish a permanent policy against this practice. This means that there is a possibility that fish will be given as prizes at future events.
Significant local update:
This June, the San Mateo County Fair updated its contract to prohibit awarding live animals as prizes. This decision came after they learned that fish were given as prizes at their 2024 event.

We are calling on the Alameda County Fair to follow the example of the San Mateo County Fair by updating its contract to prohibit vendors from awarding live animals as prizes.
Please continue to sign and share this petition.
Let's encourage the Alameda County Fair to align with community values and take a definitive stance against this practice.
