Afternoon All - I have spoken at length to a great lady today who reached out to me.
Liu of Hepburn Street.
She is 81 years old and been in her home for 40 plus years.
She has never received a ticket previously for parking in her verge-driveway. She has been issued 8 tickets recently.
She has asked AT that she would like to go to court to protest these alleged infringements.
She is patiently waiting for a court date to be confirmed.
I want to support her endeavour 100%
She will be seeking answers on the following:
- AT should have provided notice to all residents in the effected areas to warn people of possible fines prior its implementation.
- Public consultation before the rules were implemented.
- Not having a blanketed policy that applies the same rule to all homes, irrespective of verge-driveway size.
We feel a just way to handle this matter is as follows:
The verge-driveway should be available to use as long as there is 1000mm available footpath clearance. The rear of the vehicle must not be over the road side curb at all.
Each household purchases a yearly AT $80 parking voucher that ensures the park is only available to the intended user.
To us this seems like a sensible, common sense approach that is fair to all parties
Please spread the word far and wide, invite media or any lawyers who can assist with the legalities and keep the momentum folks.
