The Issue

Even more important than signing this petition is submitting your letter of objection! It is still not too late to write to oppose the proposed development. While the deadline of March 2nd has passed and the Wealden website is no longer accepting letters, you can still write directly to planning@wealden.gov.uk Quote WD/2022/3319/MA0 and provide your name and address. Legally, these letters must still be considered. Writing a letter is the single most effective thing that you can do to protect 77 acres of green field and the adjacent ancient woodlands.

For more details about the development see  WD/2022/3319/MAO on https://www.wealden.gov.uk/

And sign this petition. If you want to donate to the cause do not donate through this website as we will provide another channel soon.

The application threatens to devastate 77 acres of green field site, adjacent to ancient woodland and at the extreme upper reaches of the River Ouse catchment. The site is home to a number of endangered species, including  species of bat, otters, rare European eels and multiple pairs of breeding skylarks. The wetland plays a key role in purifying and storing rain water, thereby preventing flooding further downstream in settlements such as Lewes.

The proposed development will also add up to 6,000 extra car journeys every day on already dangerous and  congested local roads. There has been no consultation with local communities demonstrating how this application is more about putting money into developers' pockets than about answering local need. Wealden has one of the lowest rates of unemployment in the country, a huge lack of low cost housing, and no public transport options - meaning that people would have to commute by car to work in and /or use the site.

For more information on the application and to make a comment or oppose see application number is WD/2022/3319/MAO on https://www.wealden.gov.uk/
