Stop Animals From Suffering in Dallas’ Packed Shelters

The Issue

Right now, Dallas shelters are bursting at the seams. Dallas Animal Services is operating at over 140% capacity for dogs and 150% for cats. Animals are being packed into overcrowded kennels, with no end in sight—and one cruelty case or intake surge could push the shelter past its breaking point.

Why? More families than ever are being forced to surrender beloved pets—due to rising costs, landlord restrictions, or health issues. DAS has increased adoptions, fosters, and transports, but the intake crisis keeps growing. They’ve now been forced to pause owner surrenders just to catch up.

This isn’t just a Dallas problem—it’s a warning bell. Without immediate emergency support, animals will suffer, staff will burn out, and the community will pay the price. City leaders must step up now with emergency funding, expanded off-site care, and resources that give staff and animals a fighting chance.

These animals didn’t ask for this. They deserve care, safety, and a real chance at adoption—not to be lost in a system that can’t keep up.

Sign this petition to demand urgent action. Let’s stop this crisis before more innocent lives are at risk.
