The Issue

Help us help hens around the world!

In 2019, Best Western made a public promise to hens and guests alike: it vowed to transition to a 100% cage-free egg supply across all its global brands by 2025. As part of that pledge, the company committed to regularly updating the public on its progress.

But nearly six years later, Best Western is just now only reporting progress for some of the regions it operates in. No meaningful updates. No plan to get to 100% cage-free. No global equity. And no real indication that the company will meet its self-imposed 2025 deadline.

Cages are a nightmare for hens and are undeniably cruel. Cages are so small, and packed with birds, that the hens can’t move or spread their wings. Often, their body parts are caught in the caging, resulting in fractured or broken bones, deformities, and severe feather loss. Some hens, exhausted or unable to move, are trampled to death by their confined cage mates. Hens in these cages are forced to live, breathe, and lay eggs for human consumption while trapped amongst feces and rotting bodies. Their daily life is torture.

This is exactly the kind of cruelty Best Western claimed it would leave behind by 2025. But with its deadline fast approaching, Best Western must report percentages for all operating regions including Africa. If they are not able to fulfill their 2025 commitment due to supply shortages, we expect them to bridge the gap with cage-free credits.

Guests deserve full transparency on promises. Animals deserve better. And Best Western must be held to its word to go fully cage-free.

Sign the petition today to demand that Best Western report cage-free progress in all of its regions and publicly disclose their plans for meeting their goal. The world is watching—and hens can’t wait any longer.
