Widlife bridges can save lives-let’s add some more to Bay Area highways

Calling all animal lovers!

Hi! I am a Bay Area local and 7th grade student. I love our animals and environment, and I use the highway a lot. Seeing so many overrun animals on our roads is heartbreaking, so I believe that building highways crossovers for wildlife is something that needs to be done!

Are you tired of seeing so many dead animals on our roads? You are not alone. According to statistics, and average of 287 animals are run over on California highways every day. This can hurt animal populations, and be very dangerous to drivers too. Over 200 human deaths and 26,000 injuries occur in animal-related crashes yearly in the U.S alone. Property damage went up to to 1 billion dollars in California 2022 and Hospital bills up to 30,000 dollars cause problems with people who are of lower income. But animal crossings can change all that, they allow animals to safely cross highways and solve all those problems! Let’s take a stand and encourage Caltrans (California department of transportation, in charge of our highways) to add more wildlife bridges to our highways!
