Thanks to YOUR continued support, we've just exceeded 56,000 signatures and counting. Your signatures, letters, emails, tweets, comments and phone calls over the past 2 weeks is starting to be noticed by Westfield. I couldn't get through to the addressees of our petition, but I did have the opportunity today to speak with the Head of Operations at the Scentre Group (they manage Westfield shopping centres in Australia.) Can you believe it, a publicly listed company as large as Scentre Group does NOT have standards regulating tenant advertising! I struggle to believe that a company that has standards and procedures for everything from cleaning the toilets to detailed tenant agreements, have no guidelines for tenant advertising. The sad part is that they have no interest in constructing a set of standards. I replied that there are already advertising standards that just need to be followed before the ad is allowed in public. Very disappointing that they are not showing any leadership on this issue whatsoever at this stage and are simply satisfied with “responding” to community sentiments. This is clearly not good enough and they should really grow some backbone to make clear distinction what is acceptable and what is not. So until they commit to ensuring that demeaning and objectifying advertising is not allowed in their centres, we need to keep growing the size of this petition. Let's see this petition get to 75,000 and you will see Westfield more motivated to do away with the corporate cliches and make actual change. I've also sent Mr Peter Allen (CEO) and Mr Brian Schwartz (Chairman) a detailed cover letter explaining the loopholes exploited by Honey Birdette together with your 56,000+ signatures, so I hope to have more constructive discussion with them soon. In the meantime, thank you so much for your continued support as I see you speaking up for your wives, girlfriends, mothers and children. They deserve better than what Westfield are serving up at the moment, so keep up the fight, we will win this for them.
