Stop AI from taking over the Halloweencostumes Design Program
Stop AI from taking over the Halloweencostumes Design Program
The Issue
Halloweencostumes.com has been allowing AI generated designs into their Halloween designer program. This has been taking away from real artists who put time and work into their designs. I and several others have proposed that any and all AI submissions that are currently up for voting to be disqualified from the competition, and for any future attempts at submitting an AI submission faces rejection. This will assure that only designs of human-made talent will be up for voting. This isn't the only issue the competition has, but its the biggest one that should be dealt with as soon as we can.
UPDATE 4/15/2026: Here are some current stats.6th place, 11th place, 19th place, 23rd place, 26th place, 27th place, 30th place, 44th place, 45th place out of the current top 50 are AI generated. This is 9/50, or 18% of the top 50, is AI generated. But if we go to top 100, that number goes to around 15-18, or 15% or 18% of the top 100. For a competition meant to show communal creativity, this an oddly high number of AI generated entries. But if we go to the full 900+ entries, then its around ¼ of all entries being AI generated.
UPDATE 4/21/2026: Thumbnail has been changed. Spook365 has deleted their AI submissions a few days ago and posted drawn versions of their submissions today. I'd like to thank them for their willingness to change, bringing us one step further to having less AI dominate the competition. East Coast Haunters in a few days and Tom will be there. If you are going as well and are concerned, voice your opinion to him in a polite and respectful manner.
UPDATE 05/03/2026: Submission period has ended and voting is underway. Remember that your votes matter in getting AI out of the running. There is a name searchbar now so it will be way easier to find props that deserve votes. Some names I recommend you look into are as follows. Love at First Bite, Madam Loveless, Matchstick Mike, The Immortal, Huggy Hannah, Devil's Advocate, Gun Slinging Sam, Strapjaw, Miss Daisy, Mother's Love, Insomnia, Vanquished Verona, Infestation, Jumbo the Clown, and Lampshade Sally.
UPDATE 5/15/2026: DAMMIT. NOW THAT WELL IS IN THE TOP 3, AT THIS RATE I'LL BE TOP 1 BEFORE THE CONTEST EVEN ENDS. VOTE TO END THIS AI MADNESS NOW.
5/30/2025: A few things happened since the last update. 1. The well is now first place 2. HC posted an AI image of The Backrooms when a photoshop job would've given similar results in 3 minutes aa demonstrated by Terror Haunts 3. Tom released a statement today acknowledging the issues. He brushed past all the issues he brought up and basically double-downed on using AI in his company. Overall not going to well. But more people are beginning to turn against HC, and that means more possible people to sign the petition. I hope to be able to get endorsements from former affiliates like Joshua Harris and SpookyGuy444 when they inevitably make full videos on the topic.
6/8/2026: So I think its time that I update the terms of the petition. Since Tom made it clear that he isn't the one who chooses to use AI. But I believe that there needs to be a firmer stance to regulate how AI is being used at Fun.com. So here are the terms that I believe should be put in place regarding how it's used by HC employees and by design program entrees.
For HC employees
- AI is to be only used for pre-visulaization
- Final design, for merchandise and marketing, is to be human made
For Designer program entrees:
- Only one AI image if you chose to use it
- The AI image is not the thumbnail image
- The AI image is to use a human-made reference
- The AI image is to be of a retail grade prop, so no industrial bases or mechanisms
- No AI videos
These are all fair terms to be put in place to appease both anti-AI and pro-AI parties.
