Places Leisure: Continued Disappointment

Despite our hopeful meeting in April, Places Leisure has failed to prioritise adult swimmers. 

We checked their September timetables and found no changes.  When we inquired, we were told that their swim school remains a priority and a focus on ‘a growing family demographic.’  This suggests potential age discrimination as not all family members are children.

It should be noted that Places Leisure is actively building new homes in the area, indicating a vested interest in creating a timetable that appeals to potential residents and generate income for their leisure facilities.

Community Control

The Dolphin Leisure Centre, originally crowd-funded by local residents and managed by Places Leisure on behalf of the council, is now under their excessive control. This prioritisation of profit over community health and social well-being is unacceptable.

Swim England, the national body for swimming and advocates for inclusive swimming programs, has expressed support for our cause, but Places Leisure has disregarded their expertise.

Next Steps

We demand either a change in Places Leisure's policy or the establishment of a dedicated adult-only swimming facility. We've written to the new MP for Mid Sussex to express our concerns.

Nuffield Health

The situation at Nuffield Health, Turners Hill, remains unresolved. There are ongoing issues with their paper-based booking system and staff confusion regarding the swim school's status.
