Stop Age Verification on social media, spotify, and other platforms.
The Issue
Everyday, more and more people use the internet. There is no way to tell their age, and it should stay that way. Companies are now going to begin requiring ID to access their site. Like youtube, for example, will use AI (YES AI) to detect if your under 18. How? By monitoring the videos you watch. A mother with a toddler who plays cocomelon? Has to verify age. A teenager with a My Little Pony obsession, has to verify age.
The issue with this is Youtube is not taking action against actually harmful things like Elsagate, bullying, and hatespeech. Youtube isn't the only one. X, Reddit, Discord, Tiktok, even spotify are all going to or thinking about implementing it.
If things change, age verification will no longer exist for social media websites, pornographic materials, and others. However, if this stays the same, who knows what data will be sold on the dark web from one data leak or data breach.
There are three proposed components of the solution: Mandatory internet safety class for kids in school. Next, better moderation for platforms done by HUMANS and not AI. Finally, people who have kids (>16), or are planning to have kids, will have to go through a mandatory class about internet safety for their children and parental control options.
For the classes, Kids would have to get a 80 (a B) or above to be able to go on to the next grade or subject. Parents would have to just complete the course and be able to show sufficient knowledge.
