Petition updateSTOP a new tunnel net fishery in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area

A Quick Update from the Inshore Flats Project

The Inshore Flats Project …Queensland, Australia
Oct 13, 2026

💬 Just a quick note to say….We know it’s been a while since our last update.

There’s been a lot happening behind the scenes as we work to get a clearer picture of what transpired during last year’s trials, what’s happening now and what happens next.

Two separate investigations related to the tunnel net trials remain active – an internal investigation by the QLD Department of Primary Industries, and a federal investigation by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority.

As far as we’re aware, the tunnel net trials remain suspended for now. But it is concerning that tunnel nets remain part of the trial program. We’re continuing to call for their removal.

We’ll share more information as things progress.

In the meantime, for a closer look at what we’ve been up to and what we’ve uncovered, follow us on Instagram or Facebook.

If you signed our petition — or chipped in to help promote it on Change.org — thank you. Your support helped get the issue on the radar and bring attention to the future of Queensland’s coastal flats.

We’re still here, working behind the scenes to help protect these extraordinary ecosystems and the world-class fishery they support. 🏝️🐟🐢😎

Thank you again for getting behind us.
