Dear all,
I am very pleased to share with you that the funding for the junction has been secured. RBC approved the budget last night. If you'd like to read the details it can be found here:
https://democracy.reading.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=136&MId=5760&Ver=4
This is a rather lengthy document but the bit that is relevant, is in the appendix, in Chapter 5, Capital Programme (2026/27 – 2030/31), at point 5.4. It states “Highlights of the Capital Programme 2026/27 to 2030/31 include […] £6m on local traffic management and road safety measures;” The £6m isn't exclusively for the junction but £500,000 of this £6m is. There is to be a further meeting on 11th March that will rubber stamp the specifics of where the £6m is to be allocated. However, RBC has put out statements formally confirming this allocation for the junction so we can be sure it's happening.
Does this mean our work is done? In short, no.
While undoubted a huge moment, what it does mean is we move into phase two of our campaign: ensuring that the work on the junction actually happens! Next, we need to have confirmation of expected timelines from RBC, and ensure these are timely, and kept too. We will of course ensure you are update.
For now though, this is a huge step forward!
Many thanks for your continued support,
Heidi and the team.
