SAVE THE ST LAWRENCE BELUGA WHALE !

The Issue

The beluga whales (sea canaries) of the St. Lawrence river is resulting in a decline population. These playful, beautiful and charming marine mammals with skin as white as snow, are the only resident cetaceans inhabiting the St. Lawrence River. Today, it would appear that only 889 belugas remain in the St. Lawrence river, making it an endangered species under the Species at Risk Act

A new threat emerges over belugas as TransCanada Corporation plans to build a pipeline to export oil from the tar sands, with an oil port in Cacouna, at the core of the habitat deemed essential to the survival of the belugas. This project is immoral, heartless and would cause destruction to the river’s belugas by increasing the mortality rate of both calves and adult belugas.

It is crucial to stop the work of transporting tar sands oil because of the risk of survival of these precious species. Sign this petition to alert the federal government and TransCanada Corporation that we are not willing to take the risk.
