The Issue

On December 9th 2025, outside Adiala Jail, agents of Asim Munir’s regime deployed water-cannons against a peaceful gathering of unarmed supporters and sisters of Imran Khan; assembled solely to demand their legal right to visit their brother and political leader, currently held in solitary confinement.

This brutal assault marks a new low in the regime’s ongoing campaign of fear against its own citizens.

International human rights obligations violated:

  • Articles 7, 9, 19, 21, and 22 of the ICCPR, concerning protection from ill-treatment, liberty and security of person, freedom of expression, and peaceful assembly;
  • Articles 1 and 16 of the Convention Against Torture, concerning the prohibition of torture and ill-treatment;
  • CEDAW, with regard to protection from gender-based violence and equal access to public and civic space.

We demand:

  1. Immediate international condemnation of the water-cannon attack on unarmed protestors including women.
  2. Urgent intervention to guarantee lawful visitation rights for Imran Khan’s sisters and family.
  3. Independent investigation into today’s state violence against peaceful protesters and accountability for those responsible.
  4. The immediate release of Imran Khan and political prisoners and a full end to all politically motivated repression.

The international community must not remain silent while Pakistani women, and law-abiding civilians, are attacked for simply exercising their fundamental right.
