I, like many Oregonians, have been deeply affected by the recent actions of Portland General Electric (PGE) and the Oregon Public Utility Commission (PUC). We were led to believe that the approved rate hike would be a manageable 18%, but this was far from the truth. The actual increase is significantly higher, a fact that PGE and PUC knowingly concealed from us. This deception is not only unethical but also criminal.

Oregon is home to more than 4 million people, almost 25% of whom rely on PGE for their electricity needs. This unjust rate hike has placed an undue burden on us all, especially those in low-income households who are already struggling to make ends meet.

According to data from the U.S Energy Information Administration (EIA), as of February 2022, Oregon's average residential electricity rate stands at 11.22 cents per kilowatt-hour - already above the national average. With this new increase imposed by PGE and sanctioned by PUC, our bills will skyrocket even further.

We demand immediate action from our state legislators and regulatory bodies. We call for stricter regulation of utility rates in Oregon and full transparency in any future changes proposed by companies like PGE or regulatory bodies such as PUC. All docket and filing information needs to be public knowledge, and none of it should be redacted, for any reason. We demand reparations be made to every Oregonian affected by this. PGE and the PUC must be held fully accountable for the irreparable damage they have done to families and homes across our beloved state.
