The issue

2020 should be the last Melbourne Cup Day that is given an associated public holiday in the state of Victoria.

From 2021 the November public holiday should be the first Donut Day or Essential Workers Recognition Day.

The pandemic and the turmoil thrust upon Victorians by Covid 19 has given collective perspective to Victorians (and many other Australians) on how essential many people are in their professional roles, people that up until now have been broadly taken for granted.

From the cleaners, to the delivery drivers (or cyclist's), to the many courageous health workers and beyond, Victorians have been given the gift of perspective, this is a way to show our collective gratitude.

Victorians just ask yourself:

A) Would you rather have a public holiday focused on an industry that is tied to animal abuse, gambling addiction and mainly benefits the 1%?

B) Or, would you rather have a public holiday that recognises the shared experience of surviving the 2020 lockdown, the Donut Day achievement of this great state, and the essential workers who's dedication and sacrifice made getting through lockdown possible?

If your answer is A, take a while and think about it, if your answer is B, then please sign and share this petition.
