Start an Intimate Partner Violence education/prevention program at UBCO

Start an Intimate Partner Violence education/prevention program at UBCO
The Issue
Did you know that 57.5% of university students reported that they had experienced some form of Intimate Partner Violence (Choi et al., 2021)?
Neither did we.
For many university students our relationship cycle starts when we begin our degrees, our first time away from parents, first time surrounded by new people with new perspectives. Getting into a relationship that has intimate partner violence so early can distort our view of what healthy is. These relationships can also impact academics, social life and mental health.
Our goal as four university students is to create an education and prevention program for all students no matter gender, culture or sexuality as it affects everyone. The education program would not only give students the resources to recognize unhealthy behaviours with partners and recognize the signs of verbal, psychological, physical and sexual violence, but would also give students the ability to recognize if their own behaviour is unhealthy. Along with this we would like to create a hub of resources on the SUO website with resources about IPV and ones for those who have found themselves in a situation.
Help us create change that will last a lifetime. Sign this petition to support student's health, safety and education.
