Start All Promised Projects for a Traffic free OMR

Start All Promised Projects for a Traffic free OMR
The Issue
Chennai OMR (Old Mahabalipuram Road) is known as the IT Corridor of Chennai. Even though the infrastructure of OMR is praised by people for the number of BPO and IT/ITES companies situated along the Rajiv Gandhi Salai, people always face a challenge in terms of traffic jam. Traffic jam at Sholinganallur junction and Tidel Park Signal are causing a big difficulty for people who are using public Transports. Especially whenever there is a long holiday or festival seasons it is always a challenge to get out of OMR. To reach CMBT or Perungulathur Bus Stand on time, they may have to start 4 hours in advance. As per a study was done in 2015 by Perungudi Toll Plaza 1.7 lakh vehicles passing by Perungudi every day.
It’s been decades, the residents of OMR hearing various plans and promises on traffic-free travel. The primary one was railway connectivity in OMR. The Southern Railway had a proposal for the Chennai-Cuddalore rail link from Perungudi(initially it was Thiruvanmiyur) along the East Coast which will pass through Mahabalipuram and Puducherry a decade ago. However, the Rs 1,200-crore project for the 179-km rail line, which is currently shifted from Perungudi to Chengalpet. Even after the construction of Chennai Metro Phase I the nearby MRTS stations became useless without the completion of MRTS Phase II extension to St.Thomas Mount. Also for reaching Thiruvanmiyur station (Tidel Park signal)itself people have to cross a big traffic jam.
To help reduce congestion, recently Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has announced about the construction of two flyovers on the road between Madhya Kailash and Tidel Park junction by mentioning both flyovers would allow vehicles to take U-turns on them, rather than on the road itself. But the starting date of the project is again being uncertain.
Dream Project is still in Dreams
1. MRTS to St.Thomas mount connectivity is still being an indefinite waiting - Even the Chennai metro Phase II (corridor-5), which is planned to finish along with MRTS last 500m connectivity got less priority from the government
2. Uncertainty in the plan of infra double-decker at OMR - Even though there was an initial conversation about the Elevated Metro Rail Phase II planned to run above an elevated road for 17.2 km, from Taramani to Siruseri, there is no further confirmation on it.
3. Kelambakkam To Vandalur connectivity as ORR Extension (Outer Ring Road) - Even though IT corridor has six-way road reaching Perungulathur (Or Kilambakkam Bus Terminal in future ) is a big deal without upgrading this connectivity.
4. More U flyover in OMR - Not only between Madhya Kailash and Tidel Park junction, OMR needs more U flyovers in all traffic congestion areas (SRP tools, Sholinganallur, etc)
Please sign this petition to urge and the Tamil Nadu government to take quick actions start the promised projects immediately (Don't miss the Email confirmmation which will be sent from Change.org after the petition signing)
